What are Single Vision Lenses?
Single Vision Lenses have one prescription that makes up the entire lens. These can be made for distance viewing, reading viewing, or even computer viewing. Single vision lenses are the most common lens type for young people. For most people under the age of 40, single vision distance glasses can provide clear vision at all distances, without needing a second magnifying pair for up close work.
When people do lots of up close work or are over the age of 40, they sometimes need a different prescription for far away than they do for up close. Reading glasses provide magnification and clearer vision up close. However, it is important to understand that these glasses will only work for close up. If you look far away with them on, things will appear blurry. Many people who have a separate prescription for reading and distance will buy two pairs of glasses: one for distance tasks and one for close up tasks.
Our Acuity Lens
Our single vision Acuity lens comes included with your frame purchase. Made of a durable plastic material, these lenses include both an anti-scratch coating and an antireflective coating. We also offer an 18-month warranty.
What are Progressive Lenses?
Many people get eye strain up close and need reading glasses. However, it is often very tedious switching between two different pairs of glasses (one for distance and one for reading). That is where the progressive lenses come into play. These lenses provide sharp vision for far away and also have reading and computer distance vision built right in. These eyeglasses don’t have any lines (unlike a bifocal), so no one will know your glasses are progressives unless you tell them. Although most commonly progressives are worn by people over the age of 40, those that spend a lot of time looking at computer screens or their cell phones often choose progressives because it alleviates near eye strain.
At Direct Vision, we offer many different types of progressives that let you tailor your glasses to your specific visual needs:
